How Do I Become A professional makeup artist For Fashion Shows And Photo Shoots?

I Am Only 13 But I’m Just Wondering How I Become A professional makeup artist When I Leave School. What Courses Do I Need To Take And What Qualifications Do I Need? I Live In The UK, The North East Of England. Is There Any Good Schools I Could Go To Around That Area?

You need to look in a phone directory for Beauty Schools in the area. You’ll need education in cosmetology.

Also, start reading your history on some of the best make-up artists in the world. Some names to start you off are Kevyn Aucoin, Bobby Brown, and Estee Lauder are examples. You’ll find many of these legends in makeup started out young just like you.

Next, you’ll need to practice on everyone you know. Get your girlfriends together and attempt to do several different looks on them with makeup. Try the natural look (just foundation, highlights, lip gloss, minimal mascara, etc), and evening look, a glamour look, etc.

Lastly, try to find any colleges or universities in your area that are films schools or fashion schools. You’ll need to understand how to interact with photographers, designers, and models. Even at 13, you should be mingling and networking for free and trying to get opportunities to put makeup on students. Offer to do the makeup for Fashion Schools who are testing their designers (They very often have faux fashion shows to test their students work). This is a great opportunity to get some experience. Do the same with the film crowd. Film students are always desperate for extra help with their projects and have no cash to do it with.
